The Retreat @ Le Grand Bois - B&B, Pool, Gite, Park & Gardens
The Canadian Visit 13th - 16th May 2012
We rarely have so many guests at one time as we have had recently with our Canadian visitors. We would like to thank them all for being such great guests, great fun & an absolute pleasure to be around, and for that reason we have decided to do this page on our website of their trip to The Retreat @ Le Grand Bois, here in the beautiful South West France as a thank-you.

Our second port of call was to what is thought to be the most perfectly preserved of all the Bastide villages in France: Monpazier, which still has isome of its original 8 fortified entrance gates. This one being constructed by the English King Henry 1st in 1282 AD.

A late light lunch in Eymet just 7 miles from Le Grand Bois. We ate at "Le Pub Gambetta" where we turned up way outside of the normal lunch service period, but were served by the very young man there, who ran to the bakers across the square, pick up some loaves of fresh bread & proceeded to prepare lunch for all 11 of us, which was greatly enjoyed by all ! Excellent service with a smile & far beyound the call of duty.

Our last proper port of call was to the Chateau at Duras back in the Lot et Garonne, where the party took sometime to discover the & explore this great medium sized fortified Castle turned Chateau, which is only about 10 or 15 minutes from us at Le Grand Bois.

We had a farewell dinner for our Canadian guests on their last evening prior to departing on the second leg of their trip to Barcelona to take a 12 day cruise around the Med & beyound. I think that the thing they all enjoyed the most was the great number of cheeses Tina had managed too find for them too sample, several of the party even wanted bread and cheese for breakfast ! I have to say what an absolute pleasure it was having this bunch of lovely people stay with us although it was only a few days, it felt much longer, & at the end of their stay it felt like we had known them for years, and hope that we see them all again in the very near future. Thank-you to you all.
