If Your Staying For Longer Than A Weekend, These Are Some Of The Places We Would Recommend For A Day Out That May Take A Little Longer To Get To, But Well Worth The Trip

Brantome; Sometimes Known As The Venice Of The Perigords
Brantome; Sometimes Known As The Venice Of The Perigords
Another very pretty village more typical of the style of the Northern Dordogne with darker stone walls, with both hand rivern stone tiles & red Roman tiled roofs, the heart of the old village is located on an island within a split in the river, under two hours from Le Grand Bois, a great day trip.
Brantome Restaurants, Bars & Cafes
Brantome Restaurants, Bars & Cafes
There are pleanty of decent quality restaurant bars around the town where one can have a very pleasent lunch over looking the trout & duck filled river
Brantome The Old Abbey & Museum
Brantome The Old Abbey & Museum
The Abbey is also a good museum & visitor centre, with the biggest pair of firedogs we have ever seen, and a spectacular hand carved staircase on several levels. Plus behind there are many hand carved anicente Christian motifes & relics in the caves of the original church, all really very interesting
Approximately 69 miles from Le Grand Bois, but well worth the trip for a day out
Arcachon, & It's Bassin
Arcachon, & It's Bassin
Arcachon is a very nice seaside resort town with a really good beach, very popular in the long summer months, not spoilt like so many British resorts, it has an abundance of good quality seafood all year round, with restaurants, cafes & bars to suit all budgets.
Approximately 100 miles, less than 2 hours, but well worth a day trip
Dune De Pyla, The Largest Sand Dunes In Europe
Dune De Pyla, The Largest Sand Dunes In Europe
The Dune De Pyla stands at a most impressive 117 metres high (almost 384 feet). The views from the top are really spectacular in all directions, especially over to the Arcachon Bassin, where the true shape of the bassin becomes evident.. Approximately 100 miles, less than 2 hours away, Best combined with a daytrip to Arcachon & it's beach a few miles away.
Dune De Pyla, The Largest Sand Dunes In Europe
Dune De Pyla, The Largest Sand Dunes In Europe
Its well worth the climb, there are steps with a handrail to the top, one can then walk down the same way or as many do just come down in the sands. There are a couple of casual restaurant-cafe-bars at the bottom, where one can buy a very needed & refreshing drink after the decent from the top of the Dune.
